Manx Grand Prix Start Delayed

Following on from the first ever cancellation of a Senior TT in June this year, today’s racing in the 2012 Manx Grand Prix has been hit by the gloomy spectre of inclement weather, seemingly a trademark of  summer 2012!The Manx (or MGP) as it is fondly known, is run over the same 37.75 mile road course as the TT, and although the event doesn’t attract the superstar names such as John McGuiness, Guy Martin, Michael & William Dunlop et al. Although Michael will race in some of the festivals classic races.
It still manages to produce thrilling adrenaline fuelled racing, with many a TT winner having earned their stripes in Manx GP competition. The 2012 Manx Grand Prix Race schedule was opened by the Newcomers races for 750cc, SuperTwins and Lightweight machines, which run concurrently on the TT Mountain Course.

Kamil Holan became the first rider from the Czech Republic to win a race at the Manx Grand Prix, when he took the honours in the Newcomers A race while local rider Andrew Dudgeon came home first in the SuperTwin (Newcomers B) and Yorkshire’s James Cowton topped the board in the Lightweight (Newcomers C) race, after a one-hour delay to proceedings caused by poor visibility on the Mountain section of the super-fast TT course, the race eventually starting at 6.30pm. Clerk of the Course Phil Taubman also warning of damp patches all round the course.

Prizes for the event were presented later the same evening by former Manx GP and eleven-time TT winner Phil Mcallen.

The Manx GP festival runs all week, with plenty to see and do, including a showing of the fabulous TT3D (purchase from our book store if you don’t make it there!), Bike rallies, Owners club meetings, beach motocross and stock car races, Motorcycle trials and sprint races, static displays and even a spitfire fly-past!

The MGP is scheduled to close on the 2nd September (weather permitting!).
